The Central City Community School District will host an open house and facility tour from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025. The event invites community members to explore the areas included in the district’s proposed facility improvements and visit with representatives from Piper Sandler about financial questions related to the upcoming bond referendum.

The district is proposing up to $7 million in general obligation bonds to fund facility updates across all grade levels. The project would address needs in security, accessibility, and learning spaces, as well as extend the life of existing buildings.

Among the key priorities is the creation of a secure elementary school entrance that would connect directly to the office, improving safety and visitor management. Plans also include renovations and repairs to classrooms and shared areas throughout the elementary, middle, high school, and preschool buildings. Updates would include replacing or repairing casework and finishes, upgrading doors and sealants, and modernizing locker rooms and other student spaces.

Accessibility is another major focus of the proposal. The plan would renovate the special education classroom to improve access to the life-skills kitchen and restroom facilities, relocate the teachers’ lounge with ADA-compliant restrooms, and enhance stage accessibility with updated wheelchair access and audio-visual systems.

Elementary classrooms would also receive updates such as new carpet, ceilings, paint, casework, markerboards, and the removal of outdated chalkboards and equipment. Another proposed change would relocate third grade classrooms from a separate hallway to better integrate them with other grade levels and promote collaboration among teachers.

During the open house, attendees can walk through key areas identified in the proposal, learn more about the scope of work, and speak directly with district and financial representatives.

Central City Schools encourages all residents to attend the event, see the facilities firsthand, and learn more about how the proposed updates aim to strengthen safety, accessibility, and learning environments for students.

More information about the bond proposal is available on the district’s website at centralcitycsd.org/2025_bond_referendum.
